Rubber Duck Project in St. Petersburg, Russia

In 2009 the Rubber Duck Project supports Circus Upsala in St. Petersburg, Russia. Circus Upsala is a circus school for children that have fallen through the cracks of Russian society. The circus provides a much needed haven from the daily troubles and gives the children reason to smile. By buying a duck you have helped us put some sparkle into the eyes of these amazing kids!

The goal of the circus is to reintegrate street kids and children from socially difficult situations into society by the means of social circus work.
The circus has more classes daily for children of different age groups. Furthermore, they have a special group of children with either mental or physical disabilities that come twice a week. When Rubber Duck went to visit Circus Upsala we participated in both the classes for street kids and the special group for disabled, which you can see from the pictures below.

The aim of the circus work is to develop acceptance, understanding, and a trusting relationship between the kids and the artistic trainers. It is not about training future professional circus performers, but about social support, reintegration of the child into school and society, and developing individual talents and interests.
