Once upon a time...

The Rubber Duck story actually started long ago in Greenland when Eik was a kid and had a dog named Nuki. But let’s skip the back-story and jump forward a few years…

A creative mind
As a young business student, Eik Braun Ottosen was eager to put his creative talents to work. With a passion to make people smile, he started designing shoes that would be as comfortable as they were fun.

In 2005, Eik produced his first shoe line, the Rubber Duck Los Drillos, and worked singlehandedly on marketing, distributing, and selling his created product. It was hard work, but the customers’ positive feedback and demand for his product encouraged him to continue designing footwear.

Here come the SnowJoggers
Greenland now comes back into the picture. On a cold winter day Eik was looking at an old photo of his husky and himself – playing in the snow in Greenland. Those were good and carefree times.

Reminiscing childhood memories, Eik came up with the idea of designing the ultimate winter boot. By combining a runner sole with a warm, padded upper and bright colors the boot would be both functional and fun. And poof!- the original Rubber Duck SnowJoggers were born.

Eik jumped on the first plane to China, had his first prototype made, spent all of his savings and bought 600 pairs.  When the SnowJoggers finally arrived in Denmark no stores would risk taking them in.  Eik used his best charms to plead and beg stores to take the SnowJoggers on consignment, which they did and....  The SnowJoggers sold out in just three days!

(SMILE) and make a difference
With this success, Eik was determined to follow through with his vision of creating a company that was more than just a shoe provider.  His vision was to create the most positive brand in the world by giving back. With this, Rubber Duck as we know it was born.

Eik’s most cherished project to date is the Rubber Duck (SMILE) Project, which is a charity program that donates 100% of it’s profit to people and organizations that dedicate their lives to making a difference in others lives.  People that utilize and translate into action Rubber Duck’s core values: INSPIRE, CREATE and SMILE.

With the (SMILE) Project the vision of giving back has become possible. Rubber Duck can now proudly say that we are part of a family and a program that strives to make a difference.
